INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The ISC (comprehensive secondary school) “Luciani – SS. Filippo e Giacomo” of Ascoli Piceno, under the auspices and support of MIUR – Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, under the auspices and support of MIBAC – Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, under the auspices and support of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Ascoli Piceno, under the auspices of Fondazione Marche Cultura, in collaboration with the institutional partners Hundred Dreams Production and Zen Movie, together with the organizational support of Associazione Culturale Stabilmente, under Cinema for School National Plan, under Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Ascoli Piceno 2017/2019 Plan, presents the first edition of International Festival “Corti di lunga memoria”, Short Film biennial on the history of contemporary Europe, which takes place in November 2019 in Ascoli Piceno (AP), Italy.

1. THE FESTIVAL

This Festival wants to promote the artistic form of expression of the short film and it is addressed to any director, author and video maker, who has realized a short film on a relevant aspect of contemporary European history.

The reference time span is the following: From the beginning of the First World War (1914) to the present day (2019).

2. WORKS ADMITTED TO THE CONTEST:

2.1 SUBJECTS ADMITTED TO THE CONTEST:

As a non-exhaustive example, short films or short films of documentaries dealing with one (or more) of the subjects below will be admitted to the selection:

Memories and traditions – War – Peace and Disarmament – National and International Terrorism – Immigration – Integration – Racism and Discrimination – Mafia and Antimafia – Totalitarianism and Dictatorships – Resistance Movements – Feminism and Women’s Rights – Social and Cultural Rights – History of the European Union – Environmental Education and History of the Environment – Science and Technology – Religions – History of Education – Arts and Cultural Movements – History of Demography – History of the Family.

More generally, all those short films which may represent one of the relevant features of European culture and history over the last hundred years will be admitted to the selection.

2.2 YEAR OF RELEASE AND DURATION OF THE WORKS ADMITTED TO THE CONTEST:

Short films produced over the last five years are admitted to the contest: starting from January 2014 to the end of 2019.

Short films shall be up to 30 minutes long (titles included).

2.3 CONTEST CATEGORIES

Short films belonging to the following categories are admitted:

a) FICTION: fiction short films (any genre)

b) ANIMATED: animated short films

c) DOCUMENTARY: short film documentary

d) SCHOOLS: both fiction and animated short films and short films of documentaries made by any schools at any level

Short films coming from all over the world, of any language or nationality are admitted to any selection, provided that they deal with one of the subjects admitted to the contest.

Any non-Italian language work shall be compulsory subtitled in English.

2.4 DEADLINE FOR WORK SUBMISSION AND SUBSCRIPTION FEE:

Any work shall be submitted within 21/08/2019.

Subscription and work submission shall be complete on the website www.filmfreeway.com

To duly subscribe every work, it is required to pay a subscription fee.

EARLYBIRD FEE: 4 $ – submission within 01/06/2019

REGULAR FEE: 9 $ – submission within 01/07/2019

LATE FEE: 15 $ – submission within 01/08/2019

EXTENDED FEE: 30 $ – submission within 21/08/2019

Subscription to category d) SCHOOLS is free.

Every author may submit one or more works. A subscription fee shall be paid for each work.

IMPORTANT: If you are a DISTRIBUTOR, contact us before subscribing your works.

3. PRIZES AND SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Short film finalists will compete to the following prizes:

2.000 € to the best overall short film. The prize will be awarded to the short film, which best represents the cultural spirit of the Festival through its narration.

500 € to the best fiction short film.

500 € to the best animated short film.

500 € to the best documentary short film.

500 € Audience award – Awarded by students’ jury.

250 € to the best school short film.

Total prize money is 4.250 €.

The Festival reserves the possibility to add other prizes, both money, and assets; the jury may possibly award, at its own discretion, special mentions and technical prizes.

In the event of winning one of the prizes, the author will be notified with due advance in order to participate in the award show. We remind you that the prize money will be awarded only if the director or a film delegate is present (producer, distributor, actors, technical cast). The organization will provide accommodation for the winning authors in the city of Ascoli Piceno (bars and restaurants discounts provided).

4. SELECTION RESULTS:

Selection results will be published on the website www.cortidilungamemoria.it and on the Facebook page of the Festival.

The winning directors will be contacted (by e-mail and/or phone) the organization of the Festival, with the required advance to ensure their attendance.

5. SELECTION CRITERIA OF THE SHORT FILMS:

Short films selection will be carried out at absolute discretion of the Selection Committee and Festival Art Direction. Passing the selection will mean to be admitted to the short films showings as finalists. Winners will be individuated by the Festival Quality Jury.

Participants may keep informed o short films selection by visiting the website www.cortidilungamemoria.it, where the program of the event and official dates will be published as soon as possible. The Festival organization reserves the right to screen, at its sole discretion, those works that have not passed the pre-selection procedures. These works will not be included in the contest, therefore they will be considered “Out of Competition”.

6. JURY:

A Quality Jury will be formed (composed of experts in the film industry, such as directors, screenwriters and professionals in the audio-visual sector) who will report 1 (one) single winning work for each section. The jury will express its opinion at the award ceremony and the reasons that led to awarding this prize will be read in public. The jury also reserves the right to assign any ex-aequo.

7. TECHNICAL ASPECTS – REQUIRED MATERIAL:

In case the participant’s short film is selected by the jury of the Festival, the organization will request the submission of the work in high resolution digital format to be sent through services of online sharing as WeTransfer or Dropbox. The organization may request the authors of finalists and winning short films, additional material for a correct presentation of the short films themselves (posters, trailers, stage photos, photos and director’s bio, etc. etc.).

Each participant must be certain to have fulfilled every request made by the regulation, under penalty of exclusion.

8. EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS:

Each author is responsible for the content of his works. Contest participants authorize the Festival to use their work, graphic material, their names and addresses provided for all uses related to the event and for collateral events related to the Festival (not for profit). The information on the entry form will be made public in the event catalogue and on the Festival website.

9. COPYRIGHT:

Each author is responsible for the work presented and for the dissemination of copyrighted music.

10. PRIVACY LAWS:

All personal data collected by the Festival will be processed in accordance with the Italian Legislative Decree 196 of 30 June 2003 on the protection of privacy.

11. GENERAL PROVISIONS:

Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of this regulation.

This regulation is written in Italian and English. In the event of interpretative issues, the Italian version shall prevail.
